News Release - Boards & Commissions Openings

The City of Baker City announces that it is seeking volunteers for the following boards and commissions:

Public Works Advisory Committee (PWAC): (two vacancies) Three year terms
The Public Works Advisory Committee (PWAC) advises City Council regarding matters in the Public Works area, including street construction and maintenance, water, waste water and storm line construction and maintenance. Terms end January 2015.

Anyone interested in volunteering for appointment to the above boards may contact Becky Fitzpatrick at City Hall, 541-524-2033 or bfitzpatrick@bakercity.com. The City Council will make appointments from the list of volunteers and nominees at a regular meeting. The volunteer application form is also available online (click here).

Tree Board: (one partial vacancy)
The Tree Board has the duty to maintain a written plan for care/maintenance of trees/shrubs in parks, along streets, and in public areas; to consider and make recommendations on any special matter/question within the scope of their work as requested by the City Council; and to issue/deny, after hearing, tree permit variances.  The Board may also order the removal/remedial treatment of unsafe, dead, diseased or potentially injurious trees on public or private property.  This term ends July 2014.

Parks & Recreation  Board: (one partial vacancy)
The Baker City Parks and Recreation Board is advisory in nature. The duties include, but are not limited to, advising the initiation, planning, and design as well as recommending a system of parks, facilities, etc., that will accommodate the public's need for parks and recreation activities. This partial term ends July 1, 2013.

The Council will attempt to keep the Board as diverse as possible placing an emphasis on both a youth member and a senior member.
