Press Release: Cemetery Cleanup Notice

The City's maintenance contractor, Grass Master, will soon be doing spring cleanup and grounds maintenance work at the Mt. Hope Cemetery, including removal of deteriorated decorations, flowers, floral designs, thatching, edging, fertilizing, and weed spraying, weather permitting. This work is scheduled for April 1 through April 19, 2013. Please remove any decorative items, flowers, etc. prior to April 1, 2013. Please note that decorative items not removed from graves and headstones by that date will be collected by the contractor beginning on that date. Collected items, other than perishable or deteriorated items, will be stored until claimed or until November 1, 2013. Items conforming to the cemetery rules may be placed on or returned to the graves beginning on April 20, 2013. Click here for a a copy of the Mt. Hope Cemetery Rules.

Press Release: Burglary/Stolen Vehicle

BAKER CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT

Incident: Burglary/Stolen Vehicle

News Release Date: March 6, 2013

On March 6, 2013 at about 7:43 am Baker City Police Officers responded to Baker Garage, located at 1780 Washington Avenue in Baker City for the report of a Burglary and vehicle theft, which had occurred during the previous night. Forced entry had been made into the building, which then allowed access to the vehicle showroom. Stolen was a 2013 Chevrolet Camaro, valued at $61,000.

"On Star" was used to locate the vehicle at about 8:20 am in North Powder, which is north of Baker City in Union County. A short time later "On Star" was able to determine the vehicle was traveling west bound on Interstate 84, toward the city of La Grande. Information was relayed to the Union County Sheriff's Office and Oregon State Police, who were able to locate the vehicle and coordinate with "On Star" to disable the vehicle and take the driver into custody.

Arrested was:

  • James Dewayne Reedy
  • 46 years of age

  • Oregon Trail Motel
  • 211 Bridge Street in Baker City

The investigation is on-going as Baker City Police Officers are expected to serve multiple search warrants in connection to this case.
