Central Park ... A Masterpiece in Progress!
Central Park is the newest and most centrally located park in our system. The idea for Central Park began forming more than 10 years ago. This plan took a more solid form when property was acquired near the downtown area that would provide for construction along the west side of the river from Washington to Valley. This acquisition also provided a piece of land that was ideally located between the Powder River and Resort Street close to the downtown area.
The conceptual plan for Central Park was developed with the assistance of the LAMP Committee comprised of community members with representation from many backgrounds from students to business owners. The plan was further developed and revised as the project advanced.
Costs of parks construction have dictated that Central Park be built in phases. Phase 1 was constructed earlier this year. This phase included the 'A Line', a section of the pathway running west from the main pathway toward Resort Street, the elevated grass seating for the future amphitheater, a two unit ADA accessible restroom facility, and green space that includes two picnic shelters (Thank you to the Baker City Lions Club!).

Future improvements at Central Park will include completion of the amphitheatre, installation of a riverside water feature, planting of interpretive gardens, development of parking areas, and extension of the "A Line" to connect to Resort Street and the future Court Street Plaza.
