Water Plan
Executive Summary

Thank you for your interest in the City of Baker City Public Works Department.  The Public Works Department is a very diverse department that includes a number of subdepartments. The Water Department maintains and operates the systems that collect surface water from the watershed, treats it, stores it and distributes it to the end user.  The Wastewater Department collects wastewater, treats it, tests it and properly discharges it.  The Street Department maintains 67 miles of city streets, intersections, signs, storm water systems and shoulders.  The Parks Department maintains Geiser-Pollman park, Sam-o Park, and several neighborhood parks.  The Cemetery Department is responsible for the maintenance and operation of Mt. Hope Cemetery.   The Swim Center is maintained by Public Works, as is the Airport.  Technical Services provides a variety of engineering services under the direction of the City Engineer, as well as supporting Public Works crews in the field, assisting the public with their projects, supporting the rest of the City departments and maintaining City Hall. The Public Works Department, including Technical Services, is staffed with a director, four supervisors and between 27 and 35 employees, depending on the time of year.   Unlike many departments similarly staffed in other cities of its size, Baker City's Public Works crews not only maintain facilities, they construct capital projects as well.   As a result, you will find them well-trained, highly skilled and able to handle just about anything that comes their way.  The Department is very public service oriented and takes pride in working safely while producing high quality results. If you have any questions or comments, or need help with a project, feel free to call us at 524-2041 or email us at the addresses below.

Thank you!
