The Baker City Building Department provides full plan review and inspection services for building, plumbing, and mechanical on new and remodel construction within Baker County.

The Building Department issues all permits for Baker County. Office hours are Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. for lunch.
INSPECTIONS
The City of Baker conducts inspections for building, mechanical, and plumbing everyday between 8:30 – 5:00. If you need an inspection please call 541-524-2054 to schedule. If you need the same day inspection, please notify us before 8:30 a.m.
If you need an Electrical inspection, please call 541-523-3385. Please have your permit number, jobsite address, type of inspection and access information when requesting your inspection.
PLAN SUBMITTALS
- Residential plans – require 3 sets of plans. Please refer to the residential checklist for submittal requirements. If building outside of Baker City limits, we will need approvals from DEQ and County Planning or Planning approval from the cities of Sumpter, Halfway, Richland, Huntington, or Haines prior to submittal when required. If building within Baker City limits, the plan review process involves a review from the Planning Department, site utility review from Public Works and the Fire Department for issues relating to potential access, fire hydrant locations and flow concerns. The inspectors have 10 working days to get residential plan review done after the building plans are accepted as complete and all other department approvals.
- Commercial plans – require 4 sets of plans. Please refer to the commercial checklist for submittal requirements. If building outside of Baker City limits, we will need approvals from DEQ and County Planning or Planning approval from the cities of Sumpter, Halfway, Richland, Huntington or Haines prior to submittal, when required.
