Attorney

Baker City contracts with a private practice attorney who has experience with municpal government law.  The City Attorney is a member of the Oregon Bar.

The City Attorney works under the general supervision of the City Manager.  He acts as the legal advisor to the City Council, City Manager, city staff, and all city boards and commisions.  He renders legal opinions on all legal matters or questions having to do with city business.

The City Attorney acts as the risk manager to monitor the city's exposure to loss in the form of physical and general liability.  He takes an active role in safety programs and works to reduce workmen's compensation losses.

The City Attorney assists the City Manager in matters of city management policy by aiding in preparation and implementation of projects, plans, recommendations and programs.  He works closely with the Personnel Director in developing and implementing sound personnel management programs.

The City Attorney monitors and reviews city ordinances and resolutions for needed revision and updating to meet current city requirements.  He answers public inquiries as to city ordinances and or policies and their public effect.
