Resort Street Area Improvement Project
Public Comments
April 14, 2005
Park:
- Keep Valley Avenue housing
- Kiosk important
- Lots of seating
- Maintenance is important for this and what we have
- Put restroom on Resort
- Xeriscape in park using native plants
- Park for our residents first, tourists later
- Make sure next generation is considered
Leo Adler Memorial Parkway:
- Connection to LAMP through Court Street is important
- Not important to acquire property behind Dollar Tree
- Mixed use (residential property and pathway) on property behind Dollar Tree
- Curb cut to boardwalk on Madison
- Like connection between Kings and Dollar Tree
- More art along path; involve arts community; art on all bridges
- Instead of putting path next to river, come down Madison from Geiser-Pollman to Resort Street
Resort Street:
- Make sure street is still accessible for truck deliveries
- Underground utilities
- Don’t allow bikes on Resort Street “path” connection
- Don’t narrow Resort Street
- Make Resort one-way going south
Court Street Plaza:
- Is a priority
- Grass instead of pavement
- Closed to autos
- Shade and trees important
- Access to park right across may not be good
- Move Christmas tree to park
Parking:
- Work with private property owners on shared parking (Kings and Dollar Tree)
- Parking lot on Broadway should not be done
- Access off of Washington, not Resort or Valley (revisit agreement with Baker Garage)
- Leave Bridge/Auburn area as private, not parking
- Easier access for RV parking
- No angle parking on Main Street
- Angle parking in parking lot would be good
- Need van accessible handicapped parking
- More focus on park, less on parking
- Angle parking on Resort and Broadway makes it difficult to see; adding more angle parking and narrowing street would make it more difficult
Other:
- Only acquire as much property as we need
- Zone map at next meeting
- Adequate bike parking downtown
- Sensitive to private property owners
- Beautiful concept
- Improve rip-rap in river channel
- Process needs to be followed for public input
- When will licensed professional get involved?
- City has hired unlicensed consultant and shouldn’t use his services anymore
- Plan needs to comply with zoning ordinances
